During the course of the last couple of weeks Bishop McKeown has made a number of new diocesan appointments. As a result Fr Malachy Gallagher has been appointed curate to the parish of Melmount, Strabane residing in the parochial house in the grounds of Immaculate Conception Church, Strabane. He will be assisting Fr Michael Doherty, PP Melmount who has had surgery earlier this year. Fr Malachy has been in the parishes of Glendermott and Strathfoyle since his ordination four years ago. In that time he has engaged himself in all aspects of parish life. His quiet and gentle manner has endeared him to many. He had hoped to do further study abroad but Covid – 19 has changed his plans at least for the time being.
We take this opportunity to thank him for his contribution to our parishes for the past four years and wish him every blessing and good wish in his new appointment.
In the new appointments Bishop McKeown has appointed Fr Roni Zacharias to be curate in our parishes of Strathfoyle and Glendermott. Fr Roni has been with us since December 10th last year. I now extend to him a formal welcome. It is his plan to be in the diocese for five years and undertake part time studies at University of Ulster (Magee Campus).
